What is my personality during stress?

“Stress is not what happens to us. It is our respond to what happens. And response is something we can choose”

Being Caregivers and in constant demand of our time, stress is something that will come very easily into our lives; this will not only rob us from our peace, but it will lead us to take our eyes from Christ.

During stress, people tend to have negative talk to in their minds or to themselves and usually 4 personalities come up.

*The worry person is surrounded by anxiety.

*The critic person emphasizes the self-esteem.

*The victim person will fall into depression.

*The perfectionist person will endure chronic stress and burnout.

Nonetheless it is important to remember that Christ is our rock and our pennant in troubled times. If we decide to lead emotions, stress and thoughts that the enemy brings, we are not letting God take over and be glorified in the situation, no matter how stressful it is.

Psalms 73:26 “My body and my heart may grow weak, but God is the strength of my heart and all I need forever”

The Enemy is Fear

When we are afraid, we tend to shut ourselves down. We don’t reach out to others, we don’t communicate our real feelings, and the resulting isolation is painful.

Then what do we do? Compulsive overeating, or any disordered eating for that matter is often an attempt to fight fear with food. We stuff down our anxieties and hope that if we bury them deep enough they will disappear forever. Unfortunately, overeating does not make the fear or pain go away. What it does do is diminish our self-esteem. And the further we isolate and withdraw ourselves, the more our fears increase.

There is a way out of this vicious cycle; the way out is through connecting with others and loving ourselves well. When we admit to God and to another fellow “journeywoman” that we are struggling we are given just what we need for that moment, for that day. God will show us how to fight fear with the weapon of love.

As we trust that God can handle our “food problem,” we can take new risks by truly loving those around us as well as loving ourselves. Unconditionally, God will give us the ability to love ourselves exactly as we are right now and accept and love life as it presents itself each moment. When we are filled with love, we are not afraid and we don’t need excess food. Father, show each of us how to be filled with the love that conquers fear, Amen.

A Better Weight Week 1

A Non-diet, Hope-filled, Faith based weight loss group met for the first time on Tuesday. We discussed the importance of recognizing negative thougths, that often are converted into reactive behaviors and leading to responsive behaviors. These often manipulate us to give into our comfort food, which only will help us to feel good about ourselves for a couple of minutes. Living in a fasted pace enviroments and getting caught in a daily routine can drain our lives, and we start very slowly to neglet ourselves. Taking care of ourselves and loving yourself should be your priority, Matthew 22:39 "You must love your neighbor as you love yourself." Over the nest 12 weeks, we will be basing our suuport group on this truth revealed in the word of God. Learning to see how God sees us and how we can learn to be healthy, taking care of not only our body, but our souls and minds. 


Caregivers Support and Group Week 1

The caregivers support group met on Wednesday for the first time,  We discussed the challenges and difficulties that taking care of others with disabilties can bring. During the next 12 weeks, we will be discussing the following topics: 

1. Suggestions for dealing with challenging behaviors.

2. Handling the holidays.

3. Effective communication with adults and children.

4. Setting limits and boundaries with others.

5. How to find time for myself and why it's important

6. Dealing with stress

These topics with emphasize the importante to share experiences, along with the help of others caregivers who understand the challenges, difficulties, ups and downs; the group will make the support stronger.

Formula for Preventing Anxiety

1. Trust in God- Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all you heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

2. Learn to Cope

a) Admit fear- 1 John 4:18
"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." 

b) Build self-esteem- 2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore, if anyone is in Chris, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come."

c) Acknowledge hurts- Hebrews 12:11
"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

d) Communicate Effectively- Ephesians 4:29
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building other's up according to their needs, that is may benefit those who listen."

e) Relaxation techniques- Matthew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest."

f) Evaluate priorities- Matthew 6:19-21
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. g) Life Goals- Matthew 6:33
"Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

h) Decision making- Romans 12:2
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing, and perfect will."

3. Keep things in perspective (realistic)- Psalm 23:4

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are wih me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."

4. Reach out to others- Matthew 7:7

"Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you."

5. Rejoice, be gentle, pray, think, act.
